1971 - 2021 : 50 YEARS OF THE CAHORS AOC

On April 15, 1971, Cahors wine was granted the status of Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée thanks, in particular, to President Georges Pompidou's real love affair with the Lot department, which reconnected him with his peasant origins and resourced him by regularly staying in an old farmhouse he had acquired on the Cajarc Causses. 1971 marks a historic turning point in the annals of the Cahors vineyard, which acquires a true and legitimate notoriety. The planted area of 440 hectares at the time, now reaches 4500 hectares. For 50 years, the winegrowers of Cahors have been working with the emblematic grape variety of the appellation, the Côt (or Malbec), with the awareness of the richness of the terroirs of the Lot Valley which are the signature of their wines.

 

At the same time, Odile and Claude Pelvillain, my parents, also started the renewal of the family vineyard by diversifying their vineyard lands.

Today, I am still looking for the best expression of each terroir to elaborate the wines of my 3 domains: Château du Port (Terrasses wine) - Château de Cénac (Causses wine) - Domaine du Théron (Coteaux wine).
